I've been in the market for a drum/thickness sander lately and I found a really good deal on one in the Charlotte area if anyone is interested. It is a 38" Woodmaster drum sander and the guy said he is the original owner and he would take $800 for it. He said he's been having some health problems and is going to close his shop. I know that this sander sells for about $3000 new, so if anyone lives close enough to Charlotte and is in the market for a good drum sander, this may be a possibility. I work out of a small garage and the sander would be too big for the amount of space that I have available. I wish that I had the space for it, because it's the same price as a lot of these cheap looking 16 and 18" drum sanders I've been looking at.

And just to let you know, I do not know the man - I don't even know his name - I just saw the ad in the Charlotte newspaper and thought someone may be interested. It sounded like he could use the money and it's a great deal. His number is 704-843-1775 or 704-843-5668. Hope this helps someone,

That's a good deal Jeremiah, maybe someone will be able to take advantage of the unit.

Hey, since you are still looking, consider this. I have a General International 25 inch dual and it's great. I like the huge twin pedestal tower mounts and geared raising and lowering mechanism.

Couple that with conveyor belt ease and great balanced drums and good abrasive strip holders and it's a darn good machine. Enter Woodtek, a competing machine for $500 less, and it looks exactly like the General I and a few others have.

you can find a wood tek link in the Online Luthier's Resource section. I believe it's $1195 last time I checked. Of course the Delta open end sanders are available for less. I think the dual support system on either side gives the design of the General and Woodtek a slight advantage on accuracy. At least that's one complaint I've heard, zip experience on the Deltas.

A buddy seems to use his in a cabinet shop environment for years on end now, so I'm sure they are good. Hey, any drum sander is better than no drum sander for sure, even if it's homemade, I'd figure out a way to have one.

It just makes life easier and guitarmaking, more fun.

Man!! I live only 85 miles from Charlotte. I've got a truck, I can even pay for the gas. But I can't seem to cough up the $800. Seriously, I'd really love to have that sander, but I have to make that next house payment.
